Parental Alienation

Parental Alienation--pitting your child against the other parent

Parental alienation – a hot topic in family law across the nation - is defined as a systematic alienation of a child from one parent, purposely caused by the other parent. A poisoning, if you will, of the child against a parent because of the words and actions of the other.

More and more, courts are being called on to review custody and visitation arrangements based on claims of parental alienation. In Mississippi, it is very unusual for primary physical custody to be modified based on interference with custody or visitation alone. Unusual but not impossible, especially when programmed parental alienation can be proved.

Are divorce rates tied to stock market declines?

Divorces increase as economy worsens

According to a recent article, divorce rates increase as the stock market plunges. While the article offers many explanations, I think the key explanation is that the lack of money during bad economic times highlights problems in an already troubled marriage. Money has always been a major factor in matrimonial harmony or the lack thereof. If you find yourself in such a situation, you need help. If your marriage can be saved, get help from a marriage counselor. However, if your marriage is beyond repair and divorce is imminent, seek legal advice to protect your legal, as well as financial, interests.
